CAN AND CAN'T DO'S
CAN DO'S
- Become a notary public at the age 18, if you are a resident of Florida. A permanent resident alien of the State of Florida can be appointed as a Notary Public if he files with the application a recorded Declaration of Domicile. The residence required for appointment must be maintained throughout the term of appointment.
- Perform a marriage ceremony.
- Act as a notary public anywhere in the State of Florida.
CAN'T DO'S
- Notarize a document unless the signer personally appears before the Notary Public at the time of notarization.
- Notarize documents outside the State of Florida.
- Notarize a signature on a document requiring two signatures unless you write above your signature that you are notarizing the signature of "name of person in your presence signing the document".
- Notarize a document that has blank spaces therein.
- Post dates or Antedate any acknowledgment on a document.
- Notarize a document if the signer is the spouse, son, daughter, mother or father of the Notary Public.
- The Notary Public has a financial interest in or is a party to the underlying document.
- Obtain or use a notary commission in other than his or her legal name.
- Notarize his or her own signature.
